Depression and Despair

Mr. Solomon Muthaiah

Come quickly, Lord, and answer me, for my depression deepens. Don’t turn away from me, or I will die. (Psalm 143:7, NLT)

Some years ago, I had a friend on a depression site. He said he didn’t want to live. Many times, he had tried to end his life unsuccessfully. Once he messaged me and told me he had a flail chest. When I realized what a flail chest really meant I was horrified and asked him how it had happened. He told me that he had jumped off a tall building!! The last I heard of him was when he was in hospital, he said he had made another attempt to end his life and had broken his neck and suffered three cardiac arrests in the hospital. The doctors were trying to save his life. But that was not the worst news. As the doctors took MRIs of his neck and brain, they discovered some tumors there. Some were malignant and they couldn’t extricate the remains of a deep seated one in his brain.

Do you feel depressed sometimes? It needn’t be clinical depression or it might. You might have lost a family member or you might not be on good terms with your spouse or other members of the family. Your closest friend might have let you down, your finances might be low and you might have lost your job or failed in an examination. Sometimes there seems no way out of certain problems or out of depression. Be assured that God sees your tears, although you might not feel Him there. I encourage you to believe in God and that he is with you however the situation might be as God has said, that he will never leave you not forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:8). I know it’s difficult, but we are all believers and we believe the Bible, whether we feel God answers or not, whether you feel He is unjust in his dealings with you or not. Even if you feel that He is not there. Just keep believing in His word! However, if you are tired and just cannot believe anymore, just rest all your burdens with yourself in His arms. He will somehow see your through.

Trusting our entire life to Jesus,

Just believing in his word,

Will prove that He is with us.

That our prayers will surely be heard.

Prayer

Dear God, thank you that you still love me, although circumstances seem as though you do not. I promise to simply believe in you till you answer my cry. In Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
