The Love of God

Mr. Solomon Muthaiah

Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom shall I send as a messenger to my people? Who will go?”

And I said, “Lord, I’ll go! Send me.”

And he said, “Yes, go. But tell my people this: ‘Though you hear my words repeatedly, you won’t understand them. Though you watch and watch as I perform my miracles, still you won’t know what they mean.’ Dull their understanding, close their ears, and shut their eyes. I don’t want them to see or to hear or to understand, or to turn to me to heal them.” (Isaiah 6: 8 -10, TLB)

This is a strange passage of scripture. First God himself asks who will go to his people. (Obviously that they might turn to him.) But when Isaiah says he will go, God says he doesn’t want the people to turn to him!! Let us not be like the people in Isaiah’s time, who would not listen.

Perhaps, even now a great number of Christians are closing their ears to what Christ says. What he requires of us is quite simple. He has said, “And so I am giving a new commandment to you now—love each other just as much as I love you. Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35, TLB). Again in John 14:23, Jesus says, “…“ If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” (John 14:23, KJV). We love God if we love one another as St. John stated, “For though we have never yet seen God, when we love each other God lives in us, and his love within us grows ever stronger. ” (1 John 4:12, TLB)

We keep God first when we love each other. This doesn’t give us allowance to lust after the flesh, for God is Holy and we should show God’s love to one another. If we do, our lives will be filled with Joy!!

Keeping the commandments of Jesus,

From our sins He frees us,

Becoming more and more like Jesus,

Into green pastures he leads us.

Prayer

Dear Father, thank you for your deep love for me, give me grace to return that love in loving others as I should. In Christ’s name. Amen.
