Word from our Pastor

December 2021

Dearly beloved in Christ,

Greetings to you in the precious and worthy Name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

A name is a title, which one person gets designated from another. Back in the Old Testament days, a name stood for a person’s reputation, fame and glory, particularly in the Old Testament, we see that the word name means “a mark or a brand.’’

As we enter into the Christmas season, I want to focus on the Name that we all know, which is mentioned in Matthew 1:21-23 and Luke 1:26-38. There must be something special about that Name, it was a Name given to Him by God the Father, (Matt.1:21; Luke 1:31) and the Name has been exalted by the Father (Phil. 2:9-11). When that Name is mentioned, both the angelic and earthly beings should bow before Him and confess Him as Lord.

Now, I hope you would have understood the Name that I was referring to. What a lovely Name is the Name of JESUS! When we call upon the Name of JESUS, hell trembles, Satan flees, sin is defeated, captives are delivered, fear gives way to peace, hopelessness is swallowed up in victory, the lost are found, the blind see and the dead live.

The prophet Isaiah in the 9th chapter and 6th verse of his book, reveals that Jesus is an embodiment of God’s grace and glory. Isaiah calls this Baby “a child” and “a son”. The word “child” speaks of His humanity. The word “son” speaks of His deity. Jesus Christ is the “God-Man”.

And furthermore, the Name also reveals that He is the embodiment of God’s greatness. Jesus is like a fine diamond and every time you examine Him, you see a new facet of His character and His glory! When we get to Heaven, He will reveal yet another Name for Himself that will be unique to our relationship with Him (Rev. 2:17).

Let’s study the Names which Isaiah gives to our Lord:

Wonderful – The word means “Supernatural, Secret and extraordinary” (Judges 13:18). This Name points to the truth that there is nothing common about Jesus, He is the Miracle man! He is so far beyond our level of comprehension that we can never figure Him out, yet He can be known by a little Child. He is Wonderful in His Words, His Works and His Ways.

Counsellor – This word means “to advise, counsel, purpose, devise and plan.” It refers to His role as the leader and guiding force of our lives (Psa. 37:23; Rom. 8:28).

Mighty God – This word means “Hero.” It refers to someone who is “strong, and mighty” He alone is worthy to be our Hero for He has defeated all our enemies — Death – (1 Cor. 15:55) Sin – (Rom. 6:14) Satan – (Gen. 3:15) the Grave – (Matt. 28:1-6; 1 Cor. 15:20) Hell – (John 10:28).

Everlasting Father – (He is “everlasting”; He is the great “I AM”, our life is tied to His and we will live only as long as He does). He is our “Father”. This word means “Producer or generator.” He is our “source”. He brought us into being and He sustains our lives by His power. He fulfils His role as our Father by loving us – (Jer. 31:3; Rom. 8:38-39) supporting us – (Psalm 18:35; Deut 33:27) Sustaining us – (2 Tim. 1:12) Comforting us – (John 14:16-18) and Providing for us – (Luke 12:32; Matt. 6:25-33; Phil. 4:19).

Prince of Peace – He will rule His kingdom in peace. He is the creator and provider of peace. And those who know Him, know all about peace (John 14:27; John 16:33a; Phil. 4:7).

This month, as we celebrate our Church Anniversary (let us be mindful of the toil and moil of our predecessors in sowing in the Lord’s vineyard here at EMC, let us reciprocate the same for the glory of God) and Christmas, I pray that our Almighty God will grant His blessing upon each one of you. So that, you may be in constant touch with Jesus, the Immanuel, who is a wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace, in Whom we find hope, peace, love, salvation, blessing, healing, wonder, joy, glory, and majesty, forever and ever. Amen.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. C. James Raj,

Senior Pastor
