The Punishment

Cain replied to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear.” Genesis 4:13

The Bible convicts us of sin. We read in Romans 3:23 – For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23 NLT. However holy and spotless we might seem; we have been born in sin because of our common ancestor; Adam’s sinful blood flowing in our veins. Again, the Bible says, “If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us!! 1 John 1:8 KJV. This is why Jesus had to be born of the Holy Spirit: a holy and blameless sacrifice. Once for all making atonement for all our sins. For both the dead and the living. Now whoever asks for forgiveness of God trusting Christ to save them; are saved from the eternal punishment in hell due to their sins. However, this does not mean to say that we can go ahead and sin willfully and expect God to go on forgiving us, rather it means that we are now in Christ and He in us and so sin no longer has hold over us, however if we sin inadvertently the Bible says, “I am writing this to you so that you will not sin, but if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father, he is Jesus Christ the one who is truly righteous.” 1 John 2:1

Christ hanging on the tree,

Just for you and just for me;

Rewriting all-time History,

Just so that we could be free.

Prayer

Dear God, here and now I confess all my sins to you, asking for forgiveness in Christ’s name. I henceforth promise not to sin. Not by my own merit, but through the power of your Holy Spirit. In Christs’ Name, Amen.
