A place to gather as Methodist Elders

Adella Paul

A   place   to  gather  as  Methodist  Elders

Time  and  space  for  over 60’s  to  Fellowship

That   unites   each  one   in  M E F.

God’s grace to cross  three score years given to  members of the EMC family,  are the assembly that hearts and minds moved by the Spirit  brought together as the M E F  about a decade ago.  Some of us have had the privilege to be part  of this fellowship right from the start.  We are grateful  to  God  that  the Fellowship of  God’s children  is  extended to all  without  discrimination,  from  infants to tottering  age covering all—zero  to above sixty.

Therefore   Emmanuel  gives  recognition  to elders   for a number of  factors.  A  decennium  of   assemblies  has  afforded rich  Christian  fellowship.  Understanding  the  length of morning service,  the physical  bodies  of  the  elderly  get  nourished with a  sandwich or bun and  coffee served with warm hearted  smiles. Prayer and  singing  are the  first.  Carefully  chosen   themes  relevant to  elders  and  thoughtfully picked  speakers  to  deliberate on  them  have  been a  source  of  spiritual  strength  like  soup for  the  soul.

Like  grated  cheese  in the  soup  we  have  extra  delights at  times, with  doctors  giving  us  tips  for  the  oldies  to  follow,  to make  life  and  mobility easier and stronger  to    continue   to  be  active.

We  have  enjoyed  a  variety  of  games  that  we have  played,  sometimes  in  groups  and  at  other  times  collectively.  Who doesn’t  enjoy a  game?  The  lighter  moments  of  laughter  and  fun  are  also  shared  to make  every one  happy.

Every  time  there is  intercessory prayer  in  smaller groups,  to  show  concern for those in  need  in the  church  and  outside.  Small groups  give  opportunity  for  each  elder  to  take  part  in  lifting  up  at  least  one  petition  to  the  throne  of  grace.

Festivals  call for  celebration. We  have  had  celebrations as  Elders   for  Christmas  and  Easter  with  several  items of  performance  of  various  types. They  proved  to be  a  feast  for  the  eyes.  Birthdays  were  always  recognised  though  we  met  bi-monthly.

Every  M E F  meeting  finished  with  a  Sunday  lunch  with  chicken,  a  variety  of  rice  dishes , vegetable  and  a  sweet, for  the  sweet  taste of home.

We  thank  God  for  our  church, EMC  and the MEF Committee which  has  enriched  our lives  as  part of  the  church family.
