The Social Concerns Committee leads the Social ministries of the church.
EMPOWER, ENABLE AND ENRICH
EMPOWER
We seek to Empower the economically weaker women in our outreach areas by establishing tailoring units for them. This involves procuring the machines, hiring a qualified teacher who will take them through a Certificate course, and encouraging participation by presenting them with Certificates, prizes etc.
We have been able to do this at Nandambakkam, Moolakothalam and Girija Nagar. We believe that providing them a means of livelihood to improve their standard of living is very important.
ENABLE
Tuition Centers have been set up at Nandambakkam and Hanumantheertham, Girijanagar and in Arumanoor for children who need help with their studies. We appoint the teacher, take care of her salary, and seek to Enable children to do better in school. Since the parents are mostly uneducated we have found this ministry to be very rewarding.
ENRICH
We seek to Enrich the lives of Senior Citizens by regularly conducting Senior Citizens Fellowship on the first Saturday of every month. Many are from a less privileged background.
Senior Citizen’s Fellowship
The Senior Citizen’s Fellowship meets on the first Saturday of every month.
We have a time of singing, testimony time, a quiz and a short message or talk. We have also had doctors, a fitness professional, diabetologists and even a lawyer to advise our Senior Citizens on issues they may face. Birthdays are celebrated and small gifts given. At the conclusion of the fellowship a non vegetarian meal is given to everyone which is sponsored by each committee member every month.
These meetings have also served to build relationships between our church elders and those who are less fortunate. This has led to spontaneous visiting.
We conduct a Retreat every year for them and celebrate Christmas with them with gifts and a dinner.
Due to the COVID situation and the restrictions on gathering, the fellowship meetings are temporarily on hold.
Rations are distributed to about 31 needy people and cash gifts of almost Rs. 5000 every month. The rations include basic groceries such as dhal, oil, tea and soaps as well as donated items such as toothpaste, oats, biscuits, soup , milk powder, coffee powder, bread etc. We have 8 sponsors who contribute these items in kind.
Periodic Cardiac Camps are organised in association with the MMM Hospital and Eye Camps in association with Kalyani Hospital & Sankaranethralaya eye hospital.
All our Special projects are run on the Income generated from our Coffee Shop held on the first 3 Sundays of the month.
