In 1952, “the Ambassador Quartet” of Rev. John T Seamands, Rev. Gay T. Johnson, Rev. David Seamands and Rev. Lester Finlay conducted a series of evangelistic meetings and sang their hearts out, beginning an era of revival.
The Church once again started growing rapidly and it soon became necessary to expand the Church to house new members.
In 1961, under Rev. A.F. Schneck, the first expansion of EMC was completed and dedicated. The very same year, EMC got her first Indian pastor in Rev. Sam Kamaleson who then saw the second expansion of the church which consisted of the Belfry porch on the North side.
Under Rev. Kamaleson, the Church saw resurgence in evangelism and missions as young men and women stepped up and answered the high call to be sent in the service of our Lord.
The Church continued to grow out of joy largely due to the pastor’s tireless ministry with the young people of the city.
Church Plants and Outreaches
The Emmanuel Methodist Tamil Church and the Emmanuel Methodist Matriculation School were both established by EMC in 1973 at Pudur. A Methodist Community Centre was built at the same place in 1978.
During the 1978 Centenary celebrations, the need for a Parish Hall and the Christian Education Building became a reality and Rev. Stanley E. Downes undertook this ambitious project and completed the first phase. In 1993, the second phase was completed under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Martin Alphonse.
EMC with a zeal to further the kingdom of God began many outreach programs.
In 1980 the Annanagar Methodist Church (AMC), formerly an EMC outreach was established. The next decade saw a flurry of church planting activities as the Vellore Methodist Church (1986), Wesley Methodist Church – Sathyavani Muthu Nagar (1987), Christ Methodist Church, Chinmaya Nagar (1988), Gilgal Methodist Church, Vyasarpadi (1991) and the Emmanuel Methodist Church and Zion Methodist Church, Pondicherry (1992) were established.
