Let’s talk was initiated after analyzing the strengths that MYF can use to help the community. ‘English‘ was one of them!
Reaching out to society by using the knowledge and talents God has equipped us with!
To reach out to the community around us, the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) have taken up an outreach initiative to help teach fluency in spoken English through a series of weekly classes. Spoken English is taught by our very own church members. The volunteers teach the children vocabulary, grammar and use exercises to help improve their spoken English.
Basic concepts of English are taught to strengthen the foundation. Practice exercises related to the concepts taught are given to enable the students apply the concepts they’ve learnt. The students are also taught with English engaging games, audio tracks, English dialogue practice and other innovative ways!
The students range from all ages and varied backgrounds. The topics covered differ based on the age groups and the English skills which are most useful to them. All the students attend a common general session which predominantly deals with concepts of grammar. Following which they are split into smaller groups where each class is taught different theories which are most applicable for them to help improve their Spoken English.
Though ‘Let’s Talk’ our aim is not only to equip students academically but also help them build confidence in public speaking, which many of the students feel is difficult.
We close each batch with a final day event where the students showcase their English speaking skills through fun activities like skits, singing and speeches!
‘Let’s Talk’ has been a blessing to the MYF as well as the students who participate.
